Truth be told, if you have been in denial now is the time to snap out of it. For decades I have heard people claim that affirmative action protects African Americans from being discriminated against by employers. Well let the truth begin. Actually employers don’t need to have a valid reason to fire or hire you. Let’s dig deeper, if you went for a job interview and weren't hired they can give a bogus reason as to why you didn’t get the job. The reality is we really don’t know if we are being discriminated against or not. But yet most of us here on social apps are battling each other over laws that have been partially and or fully revoked that really do not protect us. We are underrepresented and still make less than our white counterparts while holding the same exact position. I call it the “this will keep them quiet law”. As we continue you’ll see why.
Now affirmative action has policies in place to ensure equal employment opportunities for potential workers and employees. It also promotes social inclusion and diversity. With hopes of ending systemic discrimination employers found loopholes to still not hire you without boldly confessing you don’t have the right skin color. They’ll say things like "we don’t think this job is the right fit for you". Or "we’ll call you". Most of us have heard that at least once in our lifetime.
Although affirmative action has a wide range of policies to protect the rights of workers, I am focusing on a narrow perspective. Many argue that affirmative action has created reverse discrimination. I mean is it really fair that an employer must hire the less qualified applicant simply because of their race over the more qualified applicant? Affirmative Action was technically created to ensure fairness.
Now that all eyes are on President Donald Trump for shaking up discrimination laws people fail to realize that for many years people fought to dismantle affirmative action. In 2023 the U.S Supreme Court ended affirmative action in higher education schools. Meaning colleges can no longer consider race in college admissions. Where was the uproar for that? The awakening needs to happen in the black community.
