Black Media has grown in tremendous ways over the years gaining the attention of mainstream media. While we are no longer in a box, black media is shaping conversations about race and policies pertaining to several different laws which can sometimes be overwhelming for its viewers and listeners. As audiences become more selective about representation in media, black media’s influence has transformed and deepened. Today's world has drifted away from traditional news outlets while gravitating to digital apps that host modern news sources. Politics is now the focus of mainstream media which isn't a negative thing but it has somehow caused people to worry about the direction our country is going in. We can't help but notice the shift of how black radio has changed the conversation solely focusing on division. Promoting a biased perception that if African Americans don't vote for a certain party they are predicted to suffer and return to the Jim Crow days.
However it's important to express our point of view but programming and fear mongering have completely taken over the air waves. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Tik Tok enable black creators to share their experiences and stories without traditional media constraints. With that being said accurate information is no longer a requirement; creating intriguing content will make any news story believable. Black media has a significant role in shaping how the public views our world. It challenges negative stereotypes and encourages understanding among diverse audiences. Furthermore, black media has sparked critical discussions on systemic racism and social justice issues which all contribute to the education of its listeners. Certainly we must monitor what we consume from the media. It's far easier to become a follower rather than a leader. It appears that black media no longer promotes individuality and uniqueness. It's impossible to evolve if everyone is on the same wave.
