The expense of eggs is no surprise but it has risen yet again. Another bird flu outbreak is causing grocery stores to raise prices which is causing more headaches for consumers. Not only are prices increasing there is also a shortage of eggs due to the virus. Bird flu, also known as avian influenza, is a viral infection that mainly affects birds but can also infect humans. Researchers say it is still safe to eat eggs. It is highly advised not to under cook any of your poultry products.
Although it is rare for bird flu to spread to humans it is still possible to contract the virus. The most common bird flu symptoms to look for in humans are redness in the eye, respiratory symptoms and fever. Contact a doctor immediately and don't assume it will go away on its own.
Farmers and bird keepers are required to report the outbreak, isolate infected birds, disinfect the farm and continuously test for any traces of the virus. While bird flu may seem like a distant worry, it remains a global health concern. Daily monitoring is done to ensure the spreading of the virus is contained.
